The exhibition will be opened by Lindsay Hughes, Senior Visual Arts Officer, ACW

Dr Robert Newell, Head of Fine Art, Masters:

Courses develop a special character from the interplay of particular staff, students and place. The Swansea MA has a philosophical bent that is open and speculative. Students discover and cultivate fundamental aesthetic, moral and social commitments that demonstrate the integration of art with contemporary life, often revealing deep cultural continuities. The resulting work is unpredictable, personal and nuanced, while at the same time making relevant interventions and comments orientated towards the public domain.

Visitors to this year's exhibition may be disturbed by a certain preoccupation with death and dereliction; this is relieved however by gleams of beauty and the odd joke.

The artists have responded by producing an exciting show, combining theory and practice using a wide range of media, which includes lens based media, graphics, 2 & 3D work and performance. The work challenges personal, communal and cultural attitudes and preconceptions of the world both for the artist and the viewer.
