How effective is graphic design and can it hope to hold any real cultural value in an age that largely looks down on design as an indulgence and concerned only with commercial gains? This is the motivation for ‘Disconnected', the aim of which is to explore the cultural value of graphic design and it’s relationship with the viewer. There are, and always will be, creative’s whose work inspires, questions and provokes; but how far does this really go towards abolishing the events they protest against? Are inspiration and provocation at the height of ambition for this work or can it be taken a step further and motivate people to rebel against that which they find so shocking. These works exist as a result of feedback. They have the ability to instigate debate and potential to make you look differently at an issue you once considered familiar but I believe this work holds more potential than to simply offer a moment of reflection.
