Project title: Borderline My current practice is predominantly focusing on what I initially perceived to be self-portraits, using paper as the surface and a variety of media, including collage, to create both abstract marks and the depiction of my own figure. The balance between abstraction and representation has become one of the main focal points as well as debating whether what I am depicting is a portrayal of myself in its entirety, or a more profound characterisation of internal emotions. Drawings’ that have been created some months previously that I often find within my studio space delineates a record of another emotion to that of the newer drawing. The creation of apertures conceal certain compositional areas of the drawing underneath, abating one of my main difficulties; the drawing and its relation to the parameters of the surface and it’s metaphorical implications to my own placement in the external space around me.
